Our Ethical Sourcing Policy
At Local Food Direct we operate under strict ethical guidelines, making sure that we practice what we preach. We strongly believe that individuals can make a genuine impact on the environment by changing their buying habits – and Local Food Direct aims to make it as simple as possible for you to do that.
- As much as possible of the food and drink we sell is produced in Norfolk and Suffolk.
- Wherever we can we stock organic products – our selection of organic food is constantly increasing.
- Where there are gaps in product lines or out-of-season produce, we will fill these with organic and fair trade items – we feel it is important to offer a full range of groceries, so if a few of them have to be non-local, we make sure they are ethical.
- In cases where the producer is not local, the supplier is – thereby keeping as much local money as possible in the local economy.
- We source from smaller local farms, who take a committed approach to maintaining high standards of animal welfare and who give thought to the environmental impact of their work. The produce we sell is fully traceable back to local farmers.
- Non-food items such as cleaning products and toilet roll are either environmentally produced or recycled and supplied through local outlets.
- We deliver in re-usable and recyclable containers that keep the food cool and safe. We ask our customers to return the boxes when they receive their next order, and each box is used at least 10 times.
- We minimise our own packaging and encourage all the producers and suppliers we work with to do the same. We recycle as much of our own packaging as possible.
- We give all of our fruit and vegetable waste back to a local farmer to use as animal feed.
